Book Up the Line
by Robert Silverman
This 1969 novel considers the possibilities and paradoxes of time travel. It’s about Jud Eliott III, a failed student who gets a job as a tour guide with a company specialising in time travel. His colleagues keep trying to wreck havoc with the past to their own advantage so he’s forced to break the rules to sort things out. But it all goes wrong when he ends up falling in love with one of his own ancestors.
Film Waking Life
dir by Richard Linklater
Science and technology have advanced so much that the human being can feel invincible, but there are still so many questions. We’ve been influenced by the philosophical discussions in this movie – about reality, existentialism, the concept of dreaming and out-of-body experiences. The film’s protagonist experiences a lucid dream-like state throughout and only at the end realises why this is the case.
CD Orchid
by Opeth
We’re strongly influenced by the first album by Opeth, a Swedish metal band that makes such unique music it’s impossible to classify them. From death metal with growling vocals to music so quiet and clean you feel like you’re floating, Opeth elegantly blend lots of different styles into their sound. This is their darkest album and it contains Silhouette, the best piano piece I’ve ever heard.
