Tiny Dancer

When you’re bored of interacting with human beings, the world’s smallest humanoid robot is a dependable ally. With his endless hula dancing, air guitar playing and animal impersonations, the Tomy i-SOBOT will always be the life of the party. And when you’ve had enough of the little fella’s madcap antics, you can stick him in your pocket – he’s barely six inches tall. www.isobotrobot.com

I Never Travel Without My… Shure SE210s

Michael Fraser, an engineer in Dubai
Whenever I travel I carry my Shure SE210 in-ear monitors, which I use with my iPod Classic. These items are both tiny, and the iPod carries all my music and runs for ages. The SE210s are fantastic for air travel because they block out all background noise such as the hum of the plane or crying babies in the next seat. They sound fantastic. My entire music collection was reborn when I bought them – going back to normal headphones is simply not an option.

Back in Style

All great artists slip up occasionally, and in the 1970s luminaries such as David Bowie and Kraftwerk briefly dallied with the Stylophone, a bizarre pocket-sized synthesizer with tinny electronic sound effects. While its squawky output remains an acquired taste, it’s a huge amount of fun to learn. www.stylophone.com

Watch and Listen

If you want to keep in touch with your family on holiday without resorting to expensive phone calls, these Doro WT89 walkie-talkie watches are ideal. They’re also well suited to private detectives, orienteering teams, truck drivers and bank robbers. www.doro-uk.com

Final Fling

The umpteenth Final Fantasy game, Crisis Core, sees popular pixelated pin-up Zack Fair get caught up in the Shinra Electric Company’s ethically dubious Soldier program. The game is available on the PlayStation Portable. www.crisiscore.com

Masked Men

To get a bit of shut-eye on your Jazeera flight and remain the most fashionable person on the plane, pick up one of these seriously stylish Otis Batterbee London eyemasks. The cotton velvet masks contain a hint of lavender to help you drift off. www.otisbatterbee.com

Mixed Signals

Once upon a time, a laptop user hoping to find a local wireless network would have to suffer the rigmarole of turning on their computer, sitting through startup, and then searching for a connection. But now you need never waste time again. This T-shirt’s glowing bars light up to display the Wi-fi signal strength in your vicinity. You’ll be the coolest nerd in town. www.firebox.com

Fly by Night

The Flying Alarm Clock is guaranteed to wake you up, with a propeller that flies around the room and a loud alarm that doesn’t shut up until it’s fixed back to the base unit. www.thinkgeek.com

Call and Response

According to its creators, the miCoach is “a personal trainer and workout buddy, rolled into one”, although really it’s just a mobile phone, albeit one that barks instructions at you while you run. As well as a camera, 1GB MP3 player and networking capabilities, it measures your speed, distance, heart rate and calories burned. www.micoach.com
